Summary: Teddy's thoughts upon entering Slytherin House
Notes: Unbeta'd.  For ks8170.  Her prompt for my drabble challenge was Teddy and the Sorting Hat.

"SLYTHERIN!" the sorting hat called out.

Teddy smiled, turned his hair dark green tipped in silver and sauntered towards the Slytherin table amidst cheers and applause at the outward show of magical ability and suggested power.  It was a good way to start his career in Slytherin, he decided; the advice of his Grandmother ringing in his mind.

 "Show them that you are unique and special.  You have a gift that every single child in that school would kill for, my dear sweet Teddy.  No matter your house, show them that you're not only a Lupin, but a Black.  Make them love you, yes, but make them understand that the capacity for you to make them fear you is there too.  

"If, as I suspect, you are placed in Slytherin, every weapon you have must be brought to bear within the first ten minutes after the food arrives.  Gain allies, not only in your year group, but with the older years.  Don't give too much away.  Make them ask for information, and hand it out sparingly.  Make them feel honoured to be taken into your confidence.  Use those beautiful eyes of yours, that open, gentle smile.  Make them desire you.  Desire to have that smile turned upon them.  They will follow you out of desire then, my darling.

"Take care of the weaker ones.  The halfbloods, the muggleborns.  The lesser houses, those that neither ancient nor noble.  They will see you as their protector, which is an incredibly powerful bond.  Though your surname is Lupin, you are the last Black heir.  It is up to you to redeem our house Teddy, and show them all that Black does not mean corrupt or evil.  

"I know that you can do this, my love.  You have your mother's ability to make those around you desperate to please you.  You have your father's subtle, quiet strength.  You are the best of both of them, and you are more than the sum of your parts."

As the Headmistress finished her opening speech and the food arrived, Teddy turned to the nearest boy, a prefect, according to his badge, and smiled, eye's shining and said "Teddy Lupin. So, tell me everything you think I need to know." And the campaign for control of Slytherin began.
